How It Works

Giving, made as simple as taking out a box

Most donations never happen for one simple reason: getting things to a donation center is a hassle. D3 removes that obstacle entirely. No driving across town, no waiting in line, no loading and unloading your car. Donating takes four easy steps — and it costs you nothing.

1

Schedule a pickup

Fill out the quick form below with your address and what you'd like to donate. We'll confirm your route day by email — usually within 48 hours.

2

Set items by your door

On pickup day, place your boxed or bagged donations by your front door, porch, or a spot you tell us about. You don't need to be home — many of our donors never are.

3

We collect & sort

Our donation vehicle comes by every week on a set route. Items travel to our Long Beach warehouse, where we inspect, clean, test, photograph, and catalog each one — just like a professional fulfillment center.

4

Sold online for good

Your items are listed on our online store, our Shopify storefront, and Amazon. When they sell, your unused things get a second life in a new home.

What We Accept

If it's easy to store, we'd love to have it

We accept gently used items that are compact, resellable, and easy to warehouse. A good rule of thumb: if it fits in a box you can carry, we can probably take it. Here's what to look for around the house:

💻

Laptops & Tablets

Working or gently used — we securely wipe all data before resale

📱

Phones

Smartphones and mobile devices, with or without chargers

🔌

Electronics

Headphones, cameras, gaming consoles, smart devices, cables & gadgets

👕

Clothes

Clean, wearable clothing, shoes, and accessories for all ages

🏆

Collectibles

Trading cards, coins, stamps, figures, vintage items, memorabilia

🧸

Toys & Games

Board games, puzzles, LEGO, and toys in good, complete condition

📦

Small Household Items

Kitchenware, décor, jewelry — anything compact and easy to store

What we can't take (yet): large furniture, major appliances, mattresses, hazardous materials, perishables, or anything broken beyond repair. Data safety matters to us — every phone, laptop, and tablet is factory-reset and securely wiped before it is ever listed for sale. If you're unsure about an item, just mention it in the pickup form and we'll let you know!

Our Story

Started by two brothers who wanted giving to be easier

Door to Door Donations was founded in Long Beach, California by two young brothers — Aarya Satyasheel (12) and Rian Satyasheel (10) — who noticed something simple: most people want to donate, but the stuff just sits in the garage, because getting it to a donation center never quite makes it to the top of anyone's to-do list.

Their idea: what if donating were as easy as putting a box outside your door? Trash and recycling get picked up every week — why shouldn't giving work the same way?

So they built D3 around three parts: a weekly donation pickup route that comes to you, a warehouse operation where every item is inspected, cleaned, and cataloged with care, and online stores — our own website, Shopify, and Amazon — where those items find new homes. It's a real venture, run end to end by two kids learning how to build something of their own.

"People aren't unwilling to give. They're just busy. If we come to the door, everybody gets to be generous." — Aarya & Rian, Co-Founders

D3 proudly serves the Long Beach community — run by the brothers with support from their family and neighborhood volunteers.

Why It Matters

One pickup, three kinds of good

🚀

Kids learning by doing

Every pickup, listing, and sale is handled by Aarya and Rian — a hands-on education in hard work, service, and running a real business.

🌍

Less waste in landfills

Millions of perfectly good books, gadgets, and clothes get thrown away every year simply because donating is inconvenient. Every box we pick up is a box that skips the landfill and finds a second life.

🏘️

A stronger community

D3 keeps generosity local. Long Beach neighbors donate, local volunteers help sort, and shoppers everywhere give those items a new home — a full circle of giving that starts at your front door.

FAQ

Common questions

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Generally, yes. Door to Door Donations (D3) is a trade name of Child Literacy, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization (EIN 20-3532111), so donations of goods are generally deductible to the extent allowed by law. Please consult your tax advisor about your specific situation.

Can I get a receipt for my donation?

Absolutely. Mention it in the pickup form (or reply to your confirmation email) and we'll provide a donation receipt, issued under Child Literacy, documenting your gift for tax purposes.

Do I need to be home for the pickup?

Nope! Just leave your boxed or bagged items by your front door (or another spot you tell us about in the form) on your scheduled pickup day. Most of our donors are at work or school when we come by.

What happens to my items after pickup?

Items go to our warehouse in Long Beach, where we inspect, clean, test, photograph, and catalog them — much like a professional fulfillment center. Then they're listed for sale on our online store, Shopify, and Amazon, where they find new homes.

What about the personal data on my old phone or laptop?

Every device we receive is factory-reset and securely wiped before it is tested or listed for sale. If a device can't be wiped, it is responsibly recycled instead of sold. Your data never travels with your donation.

What area do you serve?

We're based in Long Beach, California, and run weekly pickup routes in the surrounding neighborhoods. Submit the pickup form with your ZIP code and we'll confirm whether we cover your area — routes are growing all the time.

What condition should items be in?

Gently used and working, please! Clean clothes, working electronics, complete games and puzzles, and books in readable condition. If an item can't be sold, it's harder for us to find it a new home.
